Music of Ottoman empire, old Ottoman Song 18/19 th Century - Üsküdara Giderken 3.44 min
Ottoman classical music (Turkish: Türk sanat müziği -- turkish art music or Klasik Türk mûsikîsi -- classical turkish music) developed in Istanbul and major Ottoman towns from Skopje to Cairo, from Tabriz to Morocco through the palace, mosques, and sufi lodges of the Ottoman Empire.[1] Above all a vocal music, Ottoman music traditionally accompanies a solo singer with a small instrumental ensemble. In recent times instruments might include tambur (lute), ney (flute), kemençe (fiddle), keman (Western violin), kanun (zither), or other instruments. Sometimes described as monophonic music, the variety of ornamentation and variation in the ensemble requires the more accurate term heterophonic. Ottoman music has a large and varied system of modes or scales known as makams, and other rules of composition. There are more than 600 makams that have been used so far. Out of these, at least 119 makams are formally defined, but today only around 20 makams are widely used. In the sufi teaching, each makam represents and conveys a particular psychological and spiritual state. Sometimes, in certain makams, Ottomans would use different instrumental and vocal musical pieces in order to cure certain medical and psychological conditions. A number of notation systems were used for transcribing classical music, the most dominant being the Hamparsum notation in use until the gradual introduction of western notation. Turkish classical music is taught in conservatories and social clubs, the most respected of which is Istanbul's Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti. A specific sequence of classical Turkish musical forms become a fasıl, a suite an instrumental prelude (peşrev), an instrumental postlude (saz semaisi), and in between, the main section of vocal compositions which begins with and is punctuated by instrumental improvisations taksim.[2] A full fasıl concert would include four different instrumental forms and three vocal forms, including a light classical song, şarkı. A strictly classical fasıl remains in the same makam throughout, from the introductory taksim to the end, which is usually a dance tune or oyun havası.[3] However shorter şarkı compositions, precursors to modern day songs, are a part of this tradition, many of them extremely old, dating back to the 14th century; many are newer, with late 19th century songwriter Haci Arif Bey being especially popular. Genres Ottoman music has various genres including the spiritual, improvised ("gazel", "kaside", "durak", etc.) and fasil music. The latter is more secular.

Música. Eternity and a Day from the movie Aggelopoulos-
Rumi's
poems elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go
beyond our limitations towards the Divine.
The music: The credits do appear at the end of this video, but it is by the composer, Eleni Karaindrou, and is the theme music called "Eternity and a Day" from the movie, Aggelopoulos.
A note on the music: This entire video was constructed in silence-only the poem and the images were put together without my knowing what music would be the right one. The music is so important to the interpretation of these poems. Rather than reading them, the music is my voice. When I 'laid' this beautiful piece of music over the video it fit perfectly. Few edits were made to accomodate the images to fit the music. They seem to be made for each other.

O day,
arise!
The atoms are dancing.
Thanks to Him the universe is dancing.
The souls are dancing, overcome with ecstasy.
I'll whisper in your ear where their dance is taking them.
All the atoms in the air and in the desert know well,
they seem insane.
Every single atom, happy or miserable,
becomes enamored of the sun.
Of which nothing can be said.

Khan Sahib y Krishna Das.

But the recording took an unexpected turn in the studio, at Ustad Khan's insistence, to include a vocal call-and-response between Khan Sahib and Krishna Das. The result is an extraordinary conversation between two men coming from very different musical traditions, in the shared language of bhakti, of the heart.
In a continuing spirit of collaboration, Krishna Das later added readings of devotional texts in further response to the depth and sweetness of Khan Sahib's singing and playing, as additional "windows ... into the beauty that lies within." In its final form, the recording is a profound teaching on the nature of love, as well as an unforgettable listening experience.

ALBUM OCEAN
OF REMEMBRANCE- SUFI IMPROVISATION Y SHIKRS.
This CD exemplifies both the aesthetic and the consciousness altering
qualities of the Sufi musical tradition. Soaring improvisations on the Ney
flude, Oud lute, and sacred vocal hymns accompany Zhikrs, which are the
trance-inducing, repetitive chanting of God's names. The incomparable intensity
and spiritual depth of the music will encourage both contemplative listening
and meditation.—

Zikr I - Firebirds - Sufi ritual of Divine Ecstasy-9-59 min
Publicado el 26 mar. 2014
Zikr I serves as
an introduction to a very, very ancient tradition; the tradition of ritual
dance that leads to a state of divine ecstasy. A tradition that already existed
in Ancient Egypt and still continues there today in the Sufi practice of Sama -
ecstatic sessions that principally employ sound accompanied by ritual movements
to achieve their effect - and are a dimension of zikr - or Remembrance of God.
While these sessions are held in Sufi communities throughout the world, the
particular form they take in Egypt reveals that both the roots and the origins
of this ritual date back to beyond the Dynastic period. Furthermore, the
widespread existence of this practice in every province of Egypt is living
testimony to what the ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote when he visited
the country over two thousand years ago; "The Egyptians are religious to
excess, far beyond any other race of men."
Fortunately many ancient traditions are still kept alive today in Egypt, and the passion and effectiveness of this sacred ritual remain a vital Sufi activity along the entire length of the Nile, flowing freely with its life-giving energy.

the actual zikr in islam is to remember allah by
sitting in a mosque alone without nose closing the eyes and remembering allah,
that is zikr. then the sufis make the zikir into this kind
This video shows what is possible in one's own practice. It underlies the
inner meaning of ritual which is to retire to the chamber of the inner heart,
drop all the concerns of this extremely fleeting life and float or burn in what
will be: an eternal belonging. Thank you Mr. Flynn for helping us rememeber 'remembrance'

BAILE-DANZA DERVICHE
LA DANZA
DERVICHE- SUFIS GIRADORES .
comienzan a girar lentamente.

Traditional Sufi Ceremonies Ensemble -
Sufi Devran-7.41 min
Throughout history our ensemble has examined the ceremonies carried out by Sufi's, with the desire to become closer to the Creator and to unite with the Creator, while espousing the goal of bringing to light a compilation of the common entities among various Sufi rituals while remaining loyal to their orginal form and essence, and presenting them to the service of humanity.
Subsequent to research and work conducted throughout many years, in 2007 the "Traditional Sufi Ceremonies Ensemble" was officially established and commenced its performances on stage. Within this endeavor, we have compiled and adapted for the stage the most widely recognized and enriching Sufi rituals into a single ceremony which is presented today as the Sufidevran.
In addition to the academic research conducted, the artists which comprise our ensemble and perform in this unprecedented collaboration, are also individuals who are performers of unsurpassed skill in their own respective fields.
Our aim is to present to humanity the historical and traditional Sufi ceremonies which are on the verge of being forgotten, and in addition, to promote the beliefs behind these rituals.
Our ensemble has remained faithful to spirit the original Sufi ceremonies and displays the utmost diligence in this performance, whether with respect to the music or the costumes, ensuring sustainment of aesthetic appeal at the highest level.
Today, regardless of the language, religion or race of our audiences throughout the world, we see that our audiences accompany our performances with the deepest of emotions. Our ensemble will always continue to meticulously carry out its performances.
With best wishes for all of our endeavors conducted in the tradition of oneness, unity and tolerance to benefit humanity...

olas.”

The dervish’s whirling is a
meditation—communion and contemplation—set to music; the calm center of a
spiritual cyclone. Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation captures the
music that drives this resplendent and timeless practice.
Serpentine ney (flute), melodic santoor, impassioned singing and ancient frame drum form a hypnotic rhythmic engine, building in intensity and carrying the listener to whirling ecstasy. Recorded in India’s Ishvani Kendra monastery, Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation features seasoned musicians, masters of the sema’a (Sufi ceremony), performing this irresistible music that propelled the original trance dancers.
The Persian mystic poet Rumi, founder of the Mevlana Dervish brotherhood, wrote, “…Music uplifts the soul to realms above. The ashes glow, the latent fires increase. We listen and are fed with joy and peace.”
Immensely enjoyable for straight listening, truly indispensable for inner exploration, Sufi Splendor: Music for Whirling Meditation places the listener at the tranquil heart of that latent fire.

Ceremonia Sufi de la rama Mevlevi. (Turquia. Estambul)-8.32
MIN
Actualizado el 14 oct. 2010
