Ottoman classical music (Turkish: Türk sanat müziği -- turkish art music or Klasik Türk mûsikîsi -- classical turkish music) developed in Istanbul and major Ottoman towns from Skopje to Cairo, from Tabriz to Morocco through the palace, mosques, and sufi lodges of the Ottoman Empire.[1] Above all a vocal music, Ottoman music traditionally accompanies a solo singer with a small instrumental ensemble. In recent times instruments might include tambur (lute), ney (flute), kemençe (fiddle), keman (Western violin), kanun (zither), or other instruments. Sometimes described as monophonic music, the variety of ornamentation and variation in the ensemble requires the more accurate term heterophonic. Ottoman music has a large and varied system of modes or scales known as makams, and other rules of composition. There are more than 600 makams that have been used so far. Out of these, at least 119 makams are formally defined, but today only around 20 makams are widely used. In the sufi teaching, each makam represents and conveys a particular psychological and spiritual state. Sometimes, in certain makams, Ottomans would use different instrumental and vocal musical pieces in order to cure certain medical and psychological conditions. A number of notation systems were used for transcribing classical music, the most dominant being the Hamparsum notation in use until the gradual introduction of western notation. Turkish classical music is taught in conservatories and social clubs, the most respected of which is Istanbul's Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti. A specific sequence of classical Turkish musical forms become a fasıl, a suite an instrumental prelude (peşrev), an instrumental postlude (saz semaisi), and in between, the main section of vocal compositions which begins with and is punctuated by instrumental improvisations taksim.[2] A full fasıl concert would include four different instrumental forms and three vocal forms, including a light classical song, şarkı. A strictly classical fasıl remains in the same makam throughout, from the introductory taksim to the end, which is usually a dance tune or oyun havası.[3] However shorter şarkı compositions, precursors to modern day songs, are a part of this tradition, many of them extremely old, dating back to the 14th century; many are newer, with late 19th century songwriter Haci Arif Bey being especially popular. Genres Ottoman music has various genres including the spiritual, improvised ("gazel", "kaside", "durak", etc.) and fasil music. KD: Oh, yeah, many. I've been blessed to have met many great yogis and holy people over the years, yeah. It's just continually shot me up again with faith that it's all really true, and we really can find a way to live in this world in a good way. I've met incredible souls over the years and seen amazing things, it's a blessing.
PM: Are you connected with the Ramana Maharishi tradition, and the people from his lineage?
KD: Inside I'm very close with Ramana Maharishi. I've been to Arunchala, his place. And I read his books, stories about him. And I feel very close to him.
PM: One of the most amazing guys that ever lived.
KD: Absolutely. And you don't get the whole picture from most of the books because the people who wrote the books were the intellectuals, and he had a whole full-blown thing going on there, in every way. And even though he taught this one practice mainly, you know, "who am I"--
PM: Right.
KD: --he had a whole devotional scene going on as well. And it was an amazing scene. And the stories about him are so great. You have to find--there's a book called--a three-volume series called The Power of the Presence by David Godman. And it's these longer stories about the devotees with their lives with Ramana. And it's mind-blowing to see him, the human aspects of him, and how he interacted with people. It's extraordinary.
PM: Well, thanks for that. I'm going to hunt that down.

Roger Arroyave-En 1970 la Asamblea General de la ONU, a través del Programa Nacional para el Medio Ambiente, instaura esta fecha como el Día Mundial de la Tierra, a fin de recordar los problemas que afectan al planeta y promover acciones que busquen un desarrollo sustentable.

En 1972 se celebró la primera conferencia internacional sobre el medio ambiente: la Conferencia de Estocolmo, cuyo objetivo fue sensibilizar a los líderes mundiales sobre la magnitud de los problemas ambientales y que se instituyeran las políticas necesarias para erradicarlos.

Laniakea: Our home supercluster-4.10 MIN

Superclusters – regions of space that are densely packed with galaxies – are the biggest structures in the Universe. But scientists have struggled to define exactly where one supercluster ends and another begins. Now, a team based in Hawaii has come up with a new technique that maps the Universe according to the flow of galaxies across space. Redrawing the boundaries of the cosmic map, they redefine our home supercluster and name it Laniakea, which means ‘immeasurable heaven’ in Hawaiian.

The Milky Way

- The Milky Way itself travels through space at appr. 600 km/s
- The image used for texturing the Milky Way is NOT a picture of the Milky Way. There are no pictures of the outside of the Milky Way.
- There could either be a black hole or a central sun in the center of the Milky Way. I went with the texture image and made it shine.
- A complete revolution around the galaxy takes 226 million years
- Do not confuse the Galactic Plane with the Galactic Equator: the Sun never "crosses" the Galactic Equator because the Sun is always on the Galactic Equator, by definition.

Precession cycle

- One precession cycle takes 25,920 years
- Since one revolution takes 226 mln years, this would mean that there are appr. 8692 precessional cycles in one revolution. In this animation there are only 60.

Scale & distance

- the Sun is 109 times bigger than the Earth. If this animation was to scale, the planets would be invisible.
- Our Solar System should be a gazillion times smaller compared to the Milky Way. If this animation was to scale, you could not see the Solar System, the Sun or any of the planets.
- The software used to create this animation is unable to work with extreme sizes and distances.
