“We
had a lot of trouble with western mental health workers who came
here immediately after the genocide and we had
to ask some of them to leave.
They
came and their practice did not involve being outside in the sun where you
begin to feel better, there was no music or drumming to get your blood flowing
again, there was no sense that everyone had taken the day off so that the
entire community could come together to try to lift you up and bring you back
to joy,
there was no acknowledgement of the depression
as something invasive and external that could actually be cast out again.
Instead they would take people one at a time
into these dingy little rooms and have them sit around for an hour or so and
talk about bad things that had happened to them. We had to ask them to leave.”

Hermoso e inspirador video.

mujeres.

Mix Kuku de Maoka
Mamady Keïta 2006 Guinea Matoto- 6.24 min
The name of the rhythm i's "Kuku de Maoka", means it's
a "Kuku" from the region of Maoka in Ivory Coast-. This is classy
drumming...Mamady Keita is one of my favourite drummers, because his solos
are so beautiful-. There is also some definite technique to getting good
tones, but a good drum (or a great one like Mamady's) and the right skin,
will defintely go along way to getting them like
that.- love this one, it rocks sooo much!! I cant sit
still! Bongo Sidibe's rocking that one note on the dununba
with his hip movements adding to the spirit of the whole thing, Mamadys
soloing is spot on--adding to the swing and the drive
I love his virtuosity and the fact he lets the music breath--leaving the
right amount of space between licks-. pace e ritmo...
Maybe you don't know that
Babatunde inspired many american 50's jazz musician. His role is fundamental
for the fusion of different musical styles. Without african polyrhythms many
musical styles couldn't exist; and Babatunde have had the great merit to bring african music
in america. The rest is history. Ps think before writing something ;-)
My parents are baby-boomers and they had Olatunji albums in their record
collection, so I grew
up on them. Listening to them taught me how to dance, because you can't move to
this music without moving your whole body. It's so awesome.

Sonora Santanera El ladron, interpretada por Sonia Lopez
Letra:
