The Best of Niccolò Paganini (27
October 1782 – 27 May 1840)
Paganini was an Italian
violinist, violist, guitarist, and composer. He was the most celebrated violin
virtuoso of his time, and left his mark as one of the pillars of modern violin
technique. His Caprice No. 24 in A minor, Op. 1, is among the best known of his
compositions, and has served as an inspiration for many prominent composers.
He was born in Genoa, then
capital of the Republic of Genoa, the third of the six children of Antonio and
Teresa (née Bocciardo) Paganini. Paganini's father was an unsuccessful trader,
but he managed to supplement his income through playing music on the mandolin.
At the age of five, Paganini started learning the mandolin from his father, and
moved to the violin by the age of seven. His musical talents were quickly
recognized, earning him numerous scholarships for violin lessons. The young
Paganini studied under various local violinists, including Giovanni Servetto
and Giacomo Costa, but his progress quickly outpaced their abilities. Paganini
and his father then traveled to Parma to seek further guidance from Alessandro
Rolla. But upon listening to Paganini's playing, Rolla immediately referred him
to his own teacher, Ferdinando Paer and, later, Paer's own teacher, Gasparo
Ghiretti. Though Paganini did not stay long with Paer or Ghiretti, the two had
considerable influence on his composition style.
Paganini composed his own works
to play exclusively in his concerts, all of which profoundly influenced the
evolution of violin technique. His 24 Caprices were likely composed in the
period between 1805 and 1809, while he was in the service of the Baciocchi
court. Also during this period, he composed the majority of the solo pieces,
duo-sonatas, trios and quartets for the guitar, either as a solo instrument or
with strings. These chamber works may have been inspired by the publication, in
Lucca, of the guitar quintets of Boccherini. Many of his variations, including
Le Streghe, The Carnival of Venice, and Nel cor più non mi sento, were
composed, or at least first performed, before his European concert tour.
Generally speaking, Paganini's
compositions were technically imaginative, and the timbre of the instrument was
greatly expanded as a result of these works. Sounds of different musical
instruments and animals were often imitated. One such composition was titled Il
Fandango Spanolo (The Spanish Dance), which featured a series of humorous
imitations of farm animals. Even more outrageous was a solo piece Duetto
Amoroso, in which the sighs and groans of lovers were intimately depicted on
the violin. There survives a manuscript of the Duetto, which has been recorded.
The existence of the Fandango is known only through concert posters.
However, his works were
criticized for lacking characteristics of true polyphonism, as pointed out by
Eugène Ysaÿe. Yehudi Menuhin, on the other hand, suggested that this might have
been the result of his reliance on the guitar (in lieu of the piano) as an aid
in composition. The orchestral parts for his concertos were often polite,
unadventurous, and clearly supportive of the soloist. In this, his style is
consistent with that of other Italian composers such as Paisiello, Rossini and
Donizetti, who were influenced by the guitar-song milieu of Naples during this
period.
On 27 May 1840, Paganini died
from internal hemorrhaging before a priest could be summoned. Because of this,
and his widely rumored association with the devil, the Church denied his body a
Catholic burial in Genoa.

50s and 60s, mostly R&B, doowop, and Motown. My first two purchased records
were 78s in '56...Peggy Sue and Blue Suede Shoes (still got em).
I listened mostly to KDIA in San Francisco/Oakland back in the day. If
I liked a new song, I bought it. Hence you may discover some great songs as we
go on this journey. Remember, just because it wasn't a hit doesn't mean it
wasn't a great song.

Every great dish relies on a secret
ingredient to make it distinctive.Rock
music's secret ingredient has to be Richard Berry. While vocally helping numerous Los Angeles
doo wop groups, he records the growling lead vocals to "Riot in Cell Block
#9," the song instrumental in changing "The Robins" into
"The Coasters."Less than a
year later, he is the first voice heard on the first record by Etta James, the
monster answer record hit "The Wallflower (Roll With Me Henry)."Less than two years later, he uses some
secret ingredients of his own and concocts this here record, "Louie
Louie" - the song that ushered in the garage rock phenomenon and is one of
the most recorded and performed songs of all time. And all because Richard Berry kept working,
thank God. (PS:Thanks mate for letting
me occasionally run my mouth.)
hicieron) del famoso tema; cito algunos nombres: The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The
Ventures, The Sonics, The Troggs, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, MC5, Patti Smith,
The Clash, Motörhead, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, Kiss, etc. etc. etc. (Jajaja, me
Pues bien, por pura curiosidad he escuchado

Bob Fosse is
one of my favourite dancers and choreographers.
His
groundbreaking jazz steps are influenced by the cake- and the camel walk,
historical performed by great vaudeville dancers like Joe Frisco and Jack Cole,
counteracted by his own inventions, the chick walk, the fan kick,
the hinge walk and the drag step.
His
choreographies followed the golden era of the hollywood musical genre and
transformed it into new spheres.

http://www.freds.gr/ The Frug
(pronounced "froog") was a dance craze from the 1960s that evolved
from another dance of the era, the Chicken.
The Chicken, which featured lateral body
movements, was used primarily as a change of pace step while doing the Twist.
As young dancers grew more tired they would do less work, moving only their
hips while standing in place. They then started making up arm movements for the
dance, which prompted the birth of the Swim, the Monkey, the Dog, the Watusi,
the Mashed Potato, and the Jerk.
The Frug is sometimes referred to as the
Surf, Big Bea, and the Thunderbird.
A perfect
example of a Frug is found in the movie Sweet Charity, which contains a number
called "The Rich Man's Frug", a wildly energetic dance number
comprising three "movements" ("The Aloof", "The
Heavyweight" and "The Big Finish") that showcases director Bob
Fosse's distinctive choreography style, particularly his creative use of
unusual poses, gestures, and arm movement. http://www.freds.gr/

"Singin' in the Rain" Song written in 1929 Music by Nacio Herb Brown Lyrics by Arthur Freed Originally from The Hollywood Revue of 1929 Sung by Gene Kelly as Don Lockwood
I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain What a glorious feelin' I'm happy again I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above The sun's in my heart And I'm ready for love Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face I walk down the lane With a happy refrain Just singin', Singin' in the rain
Dancin' in the rain Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah I'm happy again! I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain!
I'm dancin' and singin' in the rain... [ADDITIONAL VERSE] Why am I smiling And why do I sing? Why does September Seem sunny as spring? Why do I get up Each morning and start? Happy and head up With joy in my heart Why is each new task A trifle to do? Because I am living A life full of you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

West Side Story (7/10) Movie CLIP - I Feel Pretty (1961) HD - 3.14 min
Publicado el 30 jul. 2013 CLIP DESCRIPTION: Maria (Natalie Wood) sings at the bridal shop.
FILM DESCRIPTION: Romeo and Juliet is updated to the tenements of New York City in this Oscar-winning musical landmark. Adapted by Ernest Lehman from the Broadway production, the movie opens with an overhead shot of Manhattan, an effect that director Robert Wise would repeat over the Alps in The Sound of Music four years later. We are introduced to two rival street gangs: the Jets, second-generation American teens, and the Sharks, Puerto Rican immigrants. When the war between the Jets and Sharks reaches a fever pitch, Jets leader Riff (Russ Tamblyn) decides to challenge the Sharks to one last "winner take all" rumble. He decides to meet Sharks leader Bernardo (George Chakiris) for a war council at a gymnasium dance; to bolster his argument, Riff wants his old pal Tony (Richard Beymer), the cofounder of the Jets, to come along. But Tony has set his sights on vistas beyond the neighborhood and has fallen in love with Bernardo's sister, Maria (Natalie Wood), a love that, as in Romeo and Juliet, will eventually end in tragedy. In contrast to the usual slash-and-burn policy of Hollywood musical adaptations, all the songs written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim for the original Broadway production of West Side Story were retained for the film version, although some alterations were made to appease the Hollywood censors, and the original order of two songs was reversed for stronger dramatic impact. The movie more than retains the original choreography of Jerome Robbins, which is recreated in some of the most startling and balletic dance sequences ever recorded on film. West Side Story won an almost-record ten Oscars, including Best Picture, supporting awards to Chakiris and Rita Moreno as Bernardo's girlfriend, Anita, and Best Director to Robbins and Wise. Richard Beymer's singing was dubbed by Jimmy Bryant, Natalie Wood's by Marni Nixon (who also dubbed Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady), and Rita Moreno's by Betty Wand. The film's New York tenement locations were later razed to make room for Lincoln Center.
