This festival is devoted solely to the Mother Goddess — known variously as Durga, Bhavani, Amba, Chandika, Gauri, Parvati, Mahishasuramardini — and her other manifestations. The name “Durga” means “inaccessible”, and she is the personification of the active side of the divine “shakti” energy of Lord Shiva. In fact, she represents the furious powers of all the male gods, and is the ferocious protector of the righteous, and destroyer of the evil. Durga is usually portrayed as riding a lion, and carrying weapons in her many arms.

Mahishasura Mardini Stotram with Engish Lyrics -
New (Complete version)

min
El stotra de Mahishasura Mardhini fue
escrito por Sri RamaKrishan Kavi.
Cuando un demonio llamado Mahishasura
(Baffalow) aterrorizaba a todo el mundo.
Durga
se transformó en demonio y así combatió
y mató al demonio Mahishasura,
y a partir de entonces se le llamó Mashisasura Mardhini.
MahishasuraMardhini
stotra is written by Sri RamaKrishan Kavi. When a Demon called
Mahishasura(Baffalow) was horried the entire world, Amma manifested with her
multifold appearence and sent Shiva as messanger to that demon as a last effort
to spare his life, but as usual he didn't identified Amma standing infront of
him in a beatiful form. So Amma had killed mahishasura and got this name as
Mashisasura Mardhini.

Narration & Chanting of Slokas - Birendra Krishna Bhadra
Singers - Supreeti Ghosh, Dwijen Mukherjee, Sumitra Sen, Krishna Dasgupta, Pankaj Mallick, Utpala Sen, Sandhya Mukherjee, Pratima Mukherjee, Tarun Banerjee & Others
Mahalaya, signifies the termination of Pitri Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, thus ushering in the season of religious festivals. It is said that Devi Durga begins her journey from her husband's abode in Kailash to her paternal home on this day. The glory of Durga is known from the ancient treatise Durga Saptasati or the Chandi. It describes the incarnation of Devi Durga by the unification process of all the power of the Gods and her emergence as Mahisasuramardini in the eventual fight with Mahisasura. Recitation of these slokas is known as Chandi Path and has been recited and known to combat every kind of enmity and adversity, from ages forgotten.
Since the early 1930s, homes in Bengal reverberate with the immortal verses from Chandi Kabya in the recorded voice of late Birendra Krishna Bhadra.
It is a beautiful audio montage of recitation in the enthralling voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Bengali devotional songs with narration scripted by Bani Kumar, classical music composed by Pankaj Kumar Mullick and a dash of acoustic melodrama.
